Roundup those Experts – Issue #022

Roundup those Experts – Issue #022

Actionable SEO Tip of the Week

You know that you can’t rank on Google without content. Plain and simple. And you don’t need just any type of content, you need good content that provides value to your readers

This week, I want to share with you a content marketing strategy you’ve probably haven’t tried before that can help you do just that… provide value and improve your SEO.

Expert Roundups

What are expert roundups? It’s basically a blog post that is made up of contributions or opinions by experts in a specific field or topic.

Can expert roundups help your SEO? Well, yes, if done right!

Expert roundups are a great way to get backlinks, but mainly for the experts that are being quoted because the common practice is to link to those that are contributing to the blog post.

But, since you are the author, how can you benefit from this type of content?

Organic Traffic

If you do your research and plan your topics and keywords correctly, you can create an expert roundup that can generate a lot of organic traffic to your website. Isn’t that what we all want? Yes, it is!

Topical Relevancy

Expert roundups usually go deep into a specific topic. This will help search engines catalog your website as a relevant source of information for that topic.

Authority Signals

I’m probably making this phrase up, but I’m referring to the Authoritativeness factor of the E-A-T Guidelines which we spoke about back on Issue #002.

When you showcase and link back to other well-known experts, you position yourself among them, increasing your authority as well.

Backlinks and Referral Traffic

I already mentioned that expert roundups usually generate backlinks for the experts, but if the content is well structured and creates value, there is a good chance that people will mention it and link back to your roundup.

Also, we all have a little ego inside, so it’s likely that the showcased experts will share your roundup on social media for everyone to see, which will drive referral traffic to your website

Now it’s your turn

If you’ve never done expert roundups before, I highly recommend you try it out. Here’s how you can do it:

Think of a topic your audience would be interested in reading about, do your research and determine what keywords you can try to rank for with that content.

Once you know what you want to talk about, look at your contact list and see if you are connected to any experts on the topic and invite them. Find at least 5 experts to collaborate with you.

Once they agree, ask them to write their opinion on the topic.

For example, if you have a freelancer blog, and you want to write about client acquisition ideas, you can ask your experts to share what has best worked for them.

As the author, your job is not only to write a killer intro and conclusion but also to interweave the expert comments to make it feel like a cohesive piece of content, not just a copy/paste of paragraphs.

Once done, promote, distribute and repurpose it!

I’m going to do an expert roundup for the KatLinks blog, and I’ll share the entire process in an upcoming newsletter issue. Interested to see how it’ll work? Make sure you are subscribed!

SaaS Showcase of the Week

Whether you are creating an expert roundup or a normal blog post, it’s not always easy coming up with content ideas

Yes, you can (and should) do keyword research and check search volume metrics to determine what people are searching for, but wouldn’t it be great if there was a tool that could help you discover what people are actually talking about online?

Well, let me tell you about this week’s SaaS showcase.

GummySearch is a Reddit audience research tool that can help you discover what people are talking about in the communities that are relevant to your business.

With this information, you can create content that targets the needs of your audience and provides solutions to real problems users are having, but not only that, you can also engage with the community, helping you validate and promote your products.
