Write Title Tags that Drive Traffic – SEO Tip #036

If you’re not familiar with title tags, they are the short line of text that appears in search results and in your browser’s window.

While there is no magic formula for writing the perfect title tag, there are a few things you can do to make sure yours are effective.

Keep it short and sweet

Your title tag should be no more than 60 characters long, including spaces. That may not seem like much, but you want to make sure your message is clear and concise.

Include keywords

You should include keywords that accurately describe your page content. This will help potential visitors know whether your page is relevant to their search, which will bring in more clicks and drive more traffic to your website.

But beware of keyword stuffing—using too many keywords will actually hurt your rankings. This applies not only to title tags but to your content in general. Over-optimization is a thing, and you must avoid it.

Include a call to action

When it makes sense, remember to include a call to action. A good title tag should entice people to click through to your website. The messaging will depend on the product or the conversion objective. If you have a SaaS, a call to action could be “Start your FREE trial.” Do a CTA that aligns with what you are trying to achieve.

If you follow these tips, you’ll be well on your way to writing title tags that drive traffic – and, ultimately, sales!
