Is Your Business Making Money with SEO?

If your SEO efforts aren’t geared toward making you money, I’m sorry to tell you that you are wasting your time 🫢 But don’t worry, we can fix that.

SEO should not be seen as a popularity contest. You don’t want to rank on Google to be famous. Granted, many big businesses use SEO as a branding play. But for most normal businesses like mine and yours, we need to rank on Google to drive more website traffic.

Heck, to be honest, we don’t even care about the traffic. What we really want are the leads and sales that will come from that traffic.

I’ve said this many times before: unless you sell ads on your website, you don’t need to rank for hundreds of high-volume, low-competition keywords.

SEO should help you make money. And the best way to do that is by ranking for keywords that can drive high-converting traffic.

Here’s what you need to do:

Focus on relevant, high-intent keywords that can attract people who need to buy what you sell 🤑

That usually means going for short to mid-tail keywords related to your products and/or services.

For example, let’s say you run a Web Dev Agency. Instead of trying to rank for “best SaaS tech stack”, which will not drive sales, you should focus on keywords like “custom web app development services”. Keywords like this will drive traffic with a much higher chance of conversion because it’s coming from people with purchase intent.

Of course, high-intent keywords tend to be more competitive and difficult to rank for, so if your website is new or has low authority, do keyword research to find less competitive long-tail keywords. Just make sure they are highly relevant and sales-focused.

SEO is not a one-size-fits-all approach. The strategy will differ depending on whether you have a niche site, a SaaS, an eCommerce site, or a dental clinic. The only thing that is true, regardless of what kind of business you have, is that SEO should be making you money.
