6 Creative ways to get Backlinks
SEO Tip #32
There’s no denying that backlinks are crucial for your ranking strategy. Even if you have great content, which is the foundation of good SEO, backlinks can push you to the next level and help your website rank for highly competitive keywords.
📢 This issue is brought to you by the best Google Search Console tool on the planet.
The thing is that getting backlinks is not that easy
“How can I get more backlinks?” is the question I get the most, and that’s why I decided to put together a list of backlink acquisition ideas you can implement today.
I’ll start by saying that there’s no magic bullet for getting backlinks. It does require time, effort and persistence, so if you are looking for a quick fix, you are not going to find it here. But you will learn some pretty good ideas that will help you earn some backlinks.
Let’s get on with it!
1. Warm collaborations
Guest post exchanges are another way of calling them, but I prefer collaborations. And they are warm because you will not use cold emails or DMs to get them.
You will use your current audience, community, connections, and friends to find websites in a niche related to yours.
Then reach out to them, which shouldn’t be complicated because you already know each other, and offer to create awesome content for their blog.
They get a great piece of content. You get a nice backlink. Win-Win
2. Create a how-to guide and promote it
These are highly shareable resources, so work on creating an in-depth guide about something related to your business, then heavily promote it on social media and community sites like Indie Hackers and Hacker News.
This may not bring immediate backlinks, but you already know that with SEO, things don’t usually happen immediately, but they will pay off.
3. Create a small tool or website that solves a problem
Tools and websites that help people solve small problems are a great way to get both direct and indirect backlinks, depending on if the tool is built within your website or in a standalone domain.
Regardless, they can bring in some links that will improve your domain authority, but not just that, they can also drive a lot of traffic to your website.
whattotweet.com and crontab.cronhub.io are perfect examples of this.
4. Write testimonials
Look at the products and services you currently use. If some of them are related to your own business or industry, write a great testimonial about your experience using that product and send it to them.
All businesses love testimonials, as they provide social proof, so there’s a good chance they will showcase them on their websites.
Do your research and focus on businesses that already showcase customer testimonials, especially if they link back to the clients.
5. Brand mentions
This is a pretty straightforward one: look for websites that, for some reason, mentioned your brand but did not link to you, then reach out to them and ask for a link. If they already had a reason to mention you, they may be open to linking as well.
Several tools can help you find brand mentions, but you can also use a simple Google search.
If your business is new and you can’t find any brand mentions, then search for your competitors. If someone wrote a blog post and mentioned them, you could try to get your brand mentioned there as well. Figure out who wrote it and reach out via social media.
6. Create a training course
This one is a little more complicated because you must create the course content, but it can work wonders. The idea is to create a training course, put a price tag on it, but offer it for free to those who write a blog post about it.
For example, I could create a detailed SEO video course for Indie Makers for $299 (or whatever price you want), but when promoting it, I would offer the option to get it for free if they mention and link to my course landing page from their websites.
Best case scenario, you get a lot of backlinks. Worst case, you get sales
That’s it! There are many more ways to get backlinks, but this should be enough to get you started!
